Warm Dialogue for Peace
The Ministry of Unification has announced the schedule for its second-half peace and unification cultural event of 2026, titled ‘Pyeonghwa On:Dam in Gyeongju’. This initiative is designed as a communal gathering where local residents, artists, and tourists converge within the historical and cultural arts city of Gyeongju to explore the significance of peace and unification through the lens of daily life.
By utilizing the expansive grass plaza adjacent to the landmark Cheomseongdae, the event provides a setting where participants may engage in activities deeply rooted in the history and culture of Gyeongju. The program is structured to encourage the sharing of stories between families and neighbors—creating a space for reflection on the concepts of peace and unification. From crafting workshops and live performances to interactive on-site events, the venue offers a variety of activities accessible to visitors of all ages. Gyeongju is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. It was the capital of the Silla Kingdom for nearly a thousand years, and the surrounding area still contains many remains from that period: royal tombs, stone pagodas, temple sites, and other cultural artifacts. Because these sites are spread across the city rather than concentrated in a single museum, Gyeongju has long been described as a “museum without walls.” Among its best-known landmarks are Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The city is also the venue for Pyeonghwa On:Dam 2026, an event that will use cultural and artistic programs to support dialogue about peace and reunification. Its historical sites offer a useful context for those conversations, but the event stands on the value of the discussions themselves.
