TimC REVIA BASE Tokyo: Experience Tim Burton’s Labyrinth 2026-2027 Immersive Exhibition and Rare Original Sketches

Tim Burton’s Labyrinth

Over 1 million people worldwide have “wandered in”—Tim Burton’s immersive exhibition finally arrives in Japan. Since opening in Madrid, Spain, in 2022, Tim Burton’s Labyrinth has toured 8 cities across 5 countries, attracting a cumulative total of over 1 million visitors. The Japan debut is the exhibition’s first in Asia, and it marks Tim Burton’s first exhibition in Japan in approximately 10 years.

What is Tim Burton’s Labyrinth?

Tim Burton’s Labyrinth is an immersive exhibition where visitors can experience the creative world of Tim Burton, who is both a film director and an artist. Within a three-dimensional spatial production, you can encounter the unique worldviews and distinctive characters from films such as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Instead of following a fixed path, visitors choose their own routes through the space, entering the world of Burton’s works as if in a maze.

The result is an experience akin to entering Tim Burton’s mind and wandering through its labyrinth.

Highlights

A major highlight is the display of more than 200 original sketches by Tim Burton himself. Many of these are works previously unreleased in Japan, offering a rare opportunity to touch upon the roots of his creation.

Basic Information

The exhibition opens on Wednesday, November 25th, 2026, and runs through Sunday, February 21st, 2027.

REVIA BASE Tokyo is an exhibition venue that uses projection mapping, multi-channel sound, and motion sensors to create environments visitors can walk through. Instead of hanging works on walls, the venue projects images across the floor, walls, and ceiling of one large black-box hall. There are no fixed viewing positions; the visuals surround the visitor and change as people move through the space. For artists and studios, this makes it possible to build scenes that exist around the viewer rather than simply in front of them.

For the upcoming Tim Burton’s Labyrinth exhibition, the venue is well suited. Burton’s work is known for strong graphic lines, exaggerated architecture, and dark comic imagery—qualities that can be expanded beyond the frame. The exhibition can translate his sketches and film designs into walk-through settings: crooked tree lines, off-kilter corridors, and landscapes that respond to the visitor’s movement. The venue regularly pairs its digital installations with physical material, and for this show that will include original sketches and concept art placed near the projected environments, so visitors can compare the source images with their large-scale versions.

REVIA BASE Tokyo is therefore neither a museum nor a cinema. It is a space for installation-based work, where two-dimensional originals and projected environments are presented together. The technology is not the subject of the exhibition; it is the means of showing how Burton’s drawings can occupy a room.
