Nampodong Market sits in Busan’s Nampo-dong district, a short walk from Jagalchi Fish Market and BIFF Square. It is one of the older traditional markets in the city, and its main trade is dried seafood. Stalls sell salted and sun-dried fish, pollock, anchovies, squid, and seasoned laver. The smell is salty and concentrated.
The market is small. Its main alleys branch into narrower lanes, and the stalls are packed close together. Alongside the seafood are stalls for produce, clothing, and household goods. On most days, vendors arrange their goods and call out to customers; a few snack stalls cook food on the spot. The layout is straightforward, and the covered sections make it usable in most weather.
The Yurari Dry Seafood & Beer Festival is held here. Vendors keep their regular dried-seafood stock out, and beer stalls are added in the open spaces. The event gives the market a different evening crowd, but the daily business remains the reason the market survives.
