Cherry Blossom Welcome Dome

Enjoy the Cherry Blossom Viewing Experience Comfortably Indoors

The highly acclaimed "Cherry Blossom Welcome Dome" returns to Konica Minolta Planetariums this year, offering a unique and comfortable way to experience the beauty of cherry blossoms.

Cherry Blossom Viewing, Without the Uncertainty

Planning a traditional cherry blossom viewing, or hanami, can be surprisingly difficult. Success hinges on the ephemeral blooming status of the trees and the caprice of weather patterns. At Konica Minolta Planetarium, however, you can immerse yourself in the feeling of being surrounded by cherry blossoms in full bloom, all within the comfortable, climate-controlled dome, and without concern for weather conditions or pollen.

The Annual "Cherry Blossom Welcome Dome" Event

The "Welcome Dome" is a brief intermission video shown as customers enter the planetarium dome. The content changes seasonally, and the Cherry Blossom Welcome Dome, first introduced in 2021, has become an annual favorite.

During the Welcome Dome show, photography is permitted. Visitors can enjoy viewing and photographing the projected cherry blossoms while relaxing in premium seats, which allow for lying down, or in regular seats equipped with reclining features. The Welcome Dome show lasts between 5 and 10 minutes from the time the doors open until the start of the main planetarium show, so early arrival is recommended to fully enjoy this unique experience.

A Seasonal Cherry Blossom Menu

"Cafe Planetaria," located within Planetaria TOKYO and Planetaria YOKOHAMA, will be offering a limited-time spring menu featuring cherry blossom-themed items.

  • Sales Start Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025
  • Locations: Planetaria TOKYO (Yurakucho) / Planetaria YOKOHAMA (Yokohama)

What is Hanami?

People gather in parks and gardens to enjoy the flowers, often sharing picnics beneath the trees. Hanami is a time for socializing and celebrating the arrival of spring. It also serves as a reminder of life’s transient nature, as the blossoms are only at their peak for a brief period. This event is an integral part of Japanese culture, symbolizing renewal and the beauty found in impermanence.
