With the 2021 amendment to the Library Act, April 12th of each year has been designated as Library Day, with the following week being designated as Library Week, all in order to increase the public’s understanding of, and interest in, libraries, thus promoting their use. The inaugural Library Day was commemorated in 2023, and as we approach the third Library Day in 2025, it is worth noting that Library Week — the library and reading culture campaign spearheaded by the Korean Library Association since 1964 — is marking its 61st anniversary. To promote library use, a variety of programs, including international conferences, commemorative ceremonies, lectures, and experiential events, will be held at the National Library of Korea, as well as at libraries nationwide, from April 10th to 18th, 2025.

The programs on offer during this period are:

What is Korea Library Week?

Korea Library Week is an annual event focused on promoting libraries and encouraging reading and lifelong learning. Throughout the week, libraries across the country offer free events and activities for all ages, such as author talks, storytelling sessions, workshops, and exhibitions.
