Relive the Past, Ignite the Future: Gwangju Chungjang Festival 2024
Experience the vibrant energy of the Gwangju Chungjang Festival, returning to the heart of the city from October 2nd to 6th, 2024. Held along Geumnam-ro and Chungjang-ro, this annual celebration promises a dynamic blend of tradition and modern entertainment, offering something for everyone.
(Please note: Food information below is based on the 2023 festival. 2024 details will be updated as they become available.)
This year’s festival is built around the theme of "1-Day 1-Big Event," featuring daily highlights that you won’t want to miss. From the electrifying opening and closing ceremonies to the immersive "Dinner on Geumnam-ro Street" and the pulsating "Chungjang Dance Night," each day promises a unique experience. Get ready for an explosion of color and excitement with the "Flour Play" and be mesmerized by the fiery spectacle of the "Fire Art Parade."
The centerpiece of the festival, the Chungjang Fire Art Parade, is a three-part extravaganza:
- International & National Invitations: Featuring dazzling performances from invited parade teams from across Korea and around the globe.
- Nationwide Open Call: Showcasing the creativity and passion of parade groups selected through a nationwide open call.
- Gwangju Community Showcase: A vibrant display of local pride, with parades designed and performed by residents of the 13 districts in Gwangju’s Dong-gu district, all under the evocative theme of "Memories of Music, Moments of Passion."
The grand finale of the parade will culminate in a breathtaking spectacle, as monuments representing each of the 13 districts are ceremonially burned, creating a powerful and unforgettable shared experience.
