Introduction:

Step back in time to 1912, when the enigmatic "Hung Feng-Yuan" established a presence in Liugui, Kaohsiung. More than just a general store owner, Hung Feng-Yuan engaged in specialized trade and obtained rare permission to trade with indigenous peoples, becoming a prominent figure in the region. Though the name "Hung Feng-Yuan" faded into obscurity after World War II, a remarkable discovery in 2017 during the Kaohsiung City Government’s "Rebuilding the Heart of Liugui" project rekindled the connection between this historical figure and the museum.

This exhibition delves into the vibrant Japanese colonial period, the peak of Hung Feng-Yuan’s influence. Through the lens of this multifaceted individual, the exhibition unveils the captivating story of Liugui, a cultural crossroads where indigenous and Han Chinese traditions intertwined.
